If you are a spice fan, you will love these Mini Chai Tea Apple Pies! A fun twist on the classic apple pie, they are the perfect bite sized dessert for those colder months!

Mini Chai Tea Apple Pies

Spicy Chai Tea

If you love spices and strong flavors, you should try chai tea!

It is said to help aid in digestion, enhance the immune system, fight inflammation and contain antioxidant properties among other things.

Chai is typically made with ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, fennel, clove and black pepper. Yes black pepper. It is very subtle and leaves you wondering what that kick is.

It warms the soul. 🙂

They sell chai tea in the tea section of any grocery store.

I personally love myself a chai tea latte! If you are a PSL addict (that’s pumpkin spice latte for all you non-Starbucks goers) then try this in lieu of it!

It is absolutely perfect for the colder months and leaves you all warm and cozy inside!Mini Chai Tea Apple Pies

So for this recipe, all I did was throw a chai tea bag in the saucepan and let it steep with the apples and sugar.

This is the kind I bought but there are many brands out there! They have caramel chai, vanilla chai, chai latte, there is even a spiced apple chai which would actually be perfect for this now that I am thinking about it…

Mini Store-Bought Pie Crusts

Mini Chai Tea Apple Pies So they don’t sell mini pie crusts like these so you have two options.

  1. You can of course, make your own pie crust if you’d like but why go through all that work? It takes time and to be honest, is not easy.
  2.  Just buy the pre-made pie crust in your grocer’s freezer aisle. This is the package I bought. I believe Pillsbury also has some frozen shells too.

Then I just waited until the crust defrosted and cut small circles out and pressed them into the tin (see below!) Oh and you’ll need a mini muffin tin for this recipe, hence the mini pies.

If you like mini desserts, try my Quick Mini Peanut Butter Mousse Cakes and my Mini Chambord Cheesecakes With Cookie Crust. They are SO delicious!

Mini Chai Tea Apple Pies

Use a round cutter or anything that is about 3″ in diameter to cut the defrosted dough.

Mini Chai Tea Apple Pies

Place the round pie dough over the muffin tin.

Mini Chai Tea Apple Pies

Press it into the tin. Don’t worry if the crust breaks.

Mini Chai Tea Apple Pies

Just patch it back together by pressing with your fingers. Tada!

Mini Chai Tea Apple Pies

Use a fork if you want to fancy up the edges!

Mini Chai Tea Apple Pies

Peel and dice your apples nice and small.

Mini Chai Tea Apple Pies

Add all of the ingredients to the cornstarch mixture and heat on high for 8-10 minutes.

Mini Chai Tea Apple Pies

Sauce should thicken nicely. If too thick, just add more water.

Mini Chai Tea Apple Pies

Fill up those mini tins nice and high and bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until edges start to brown.

Mini Chai Tea Apple Pies

Yum!

Mini Chai Tea Apple Pies

They should pop out of the tins easily with a small knife.

Mini Chai Tea Apple Pies

Serve with chai tea or coffee or milk or whatever! 🙂

Mini Chai Tea Apple Pies perfect bite sized mini dessert for any party! Easy and freezer friendly!

Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American
Servings: 8 Mini Pies
Author: Bite Sized Kitchen
Ingredients
  • 1 Frozen Pie Crust (defrosted)
Chai Apple Filling
  • 1 Large Peeled Granny Smith Apple (diced small)
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • 3 Tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 1 Chai Tea Bag
  • 1 Tbsp Cornstarch
  • Pinch of salt
1 Mini Muffin Tin
Instructions
  1. Add water and cornstarch to a small sauce pan on high heat and WHISK it until thoroughly mixed. (a whisk works best!)

  2. Then immediately add the other filling ingredients and stir.

  3. Apple pie filling should thicken nicely and can take up to 10 minutes. If too thick, add more water. Consistency should be thick but pour-able.

  4. While sauce thickens, cut your pie dough into 3" rounds and press firmly into mini muffin tins. Use a fork around the edges if desired. Make sure dough is evenly distributed and the bottom and sides are the same thickness.

  5. When filling is done, add a generous amount of filling to each tin and bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes. The crust's edges should be lightly browned.

  6. Allow to cool slightly and serve! Top with whipped cream if desired!

Recipe Notes

Party Tips*

Add a dollop of whipped cream and sprinkle with cinnamon for a nice presentation!

These freeze well so bake them and store in Tupperware. Then defrost for an hour before guests arrive!

Aleka, these are so cute really bite sized. At first I thought the tea bag was for making a cup of tea 😀 . Never cooked with tea before so will go to my local toko to find Chai tea and give it a go!
